Johanna Headley

BVetMed, MRCVS - Principal Veterinary Surgeon

Jo opened Sunninghill Veterinary Centre in October of 2006 after more than ten years working in small animal practice. She is passionate about providing the village and surrounding areas with an excellent and affordable standard of veterinary care and works hard to ensure that the practice is a friendly and reassuring place to bring your pets. Jo’s passion and commitment was recognised when she received the 2017 Petplan® Vet of the Year Award, a prestigious honour for which she was chosen from 17,000 nominees!

Jo absolutely loves the variety that general practice offers and particularly enjoys building relationships with clients and their pets, and seeing them progress healthily through all life stages. Jo is also involved with local pet and wildlife charities, who the practice support by performing free of charge veterinary surgery and care.

Jo lives with her husband Rob, daughter Margot and their three dogs Hector, Ella and Sadie and cats Teddy and TC.

Kazmin “Kaz” Brodel

Kazmin “Kaz” Brodel

Senior Receptionist

Kaz has been with the practice since we opened in October 2006. A resident of Sunninghill all her life, she has been integral to the success of the surgery.  She has and continues to build a great rapport with local pets and their owners.  She’s the first to make the tea in the morning and always makes time for owners and pets alike – never rushing anyone, even after closing time!
While she is involved in many aspects of the running of the practice, you will most often find Kaz on reception, where she’ll be happy to offer advice on a range of pet topics.

Kaz is currently engrossed with the exciting job of planning her wedding to long-term partner and now fiancé Stephen!! They live together with her Grandma (Betty) and fat-cat Tigger Too.

James graduated from Edinburgh in 2009, and has a postgraduate certificate in Small Animal Medicine. He also holds a general practitioner certificate in small animal practice. He enjoys both medicine and surgery, and has a special interest in cardiology which he has pursued to the benefit of our patients since joining us in April 2015. James’ gentle demeanour and wonderful bedside manner have made him a fast favourite of many local pets!

When not at work he is a keen runner and cyclist, and enjoys long walks with his wife Lucy and their cheeky border terrier Poirot (who you may see around the practice!).

Astrid Hector

Astrid Hector

BVM&S, CertSAM, MRCVS, Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine - Veterinary Surgeon

Astrid joined the practice in February 2015, following 10 years as an Internal Medicine Consultant at a specialist referral practice (where we referred many cases to her).

Prior to this she worked in a small animal practice and earlier on in her career in mixed practice; where she obtained a postgraduate qualification in small animal medicine. She really enjoys speaking to clients and getting to know their pets and loves all aspects of work in the practice. Astrid continues to have a particular interest in medicine; abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy are particular areas of interest.

Astrid lives with her husband Graham and their little girl, who keeps her busy when she is not at work. She also loves spending time with Florence the dog and Womble the cat (pictured). She is a RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine.

Jojo joined the surgery in 2014. As well as working as a qualified veterinary nurse, she has long-standing experience with many aspects of the horse world.

In January 2016 Jojo was promoted to Head Veterinary Nurse, overseeing the general running of the practice from a senior nurse’s point of view. She has also moved into the flat above the practice, allowing her to provide care to pets whose conditions require them to stay with us over-night.

Pictured with Jojo are her two old fellas, Mr “Bobo” Bojangles, and Sammy Sausage. Not photographed is her horse, Taz.

Under the dedicated supervision of Vet James and Head Nurse Jojo, she is hard at work learning from our patients and logging cases, and attends college one day a week.
